ARTEL Educational Session at CLMA ThinkLab ‘08
Establishing a Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory
H

Session #810, Tuesday, April 1, 2008, 1:15 PM – 4:00 PM

Managerial, technical, and operational aspects
of a successful molecular testing laboratory

A panel of leading experts in establishing and managing molecular testing laboratories will provide an introduction and field questions from the audience.

Guided by the panelists, participants will work in groups to devise the managerial, technical, and operational details of a ‘virtual laboratory’ designed to perform molecular tests suggested by the participants. Finally, participants will ‘construct’ their Virtual Molecular Testing Laboratory by presenting each group’s results.
Expert panelists

Dr. Gregory J. Tsongalis, HCLD, FACB
Director, Molecular Pathology, Co-Director, Pharmacogenomics, Associate Professor, Pathology, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Dr. Clark A. Rundell, FACB
Vice President of Research, Maine Molecular Quality Controls, Inc. (MMQCI), Scarborough, Maine.

Dr. Frederick S. Nolte
Director, Clinical Laboratories, Professor, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina.
Can’t attend on Tuesday?
ARTEL’s Pipetting Proficiency Training and Certification Seminars offer instruction and guidance for managers who have the task of understanding regulatory requirements and/or establishing an internal quality assurance program for their pipettes.
ARTEL liquid handling quality control technology
Take control of your liquid handling process.

Verification for your automated liquid handlers
and multichannel pipettes

•   Quickly and easily verifies accuracy & precision of target volumes ranging from 10 nL to 350 µL.
•   Quantifies accuracy of dilution steps and allows determination of true reagent concentrations well-by-well.
•   ISO-conforming method and NIST-traceable measurements give you confidence in your results.

Calibration, interim verification, and inventory management for your single-channel pipettes

•   Calibrates in minutes, even at volumes as low as 0.1 µL.
•   Allows you to check accuracy & precision easily before critical procedures.
•  ISO-conforming method, NIST-traceable measurements.

Support services for your laboratory

•  On-site liquid handler performance verification
•  Pipetting technique training & certification

ARTEL Pipetting Olympics
Go for the GOLD in your own lab
Looking for a unique way to celebrate Lab Week?
Consider hosting the ARTEL Pipetting Olympics in your laboratory. It’s a great way to have fun, build team spirit and bolster pipetting proficiency. Lab Teams compete to win ARTEL Olympic Medals and Team prizes. Register your lab at ARTEL Booth #901 at CLMA ThinkLab ’08 or visit our Lab Week page for more information.
Pipetting Proficiency
Training & Certification Seminars

Through years of experience, ARTEL has developed The ARTEL Method™, a curriculum for improving pipetting proficiency. The course has come to be highly respected among laboratory professionals throughout the country. These seminars promote the development of optimal, standardized pipetting technique, as well as deepening understanding of compliance issues and best practices for improving the liquid delivery process in the laboratory. Two levels of certification are available (see chart).
Pipetting Proficiency Training
Upcoming Sessions
Could pipetting technique be compromising results in your laboratory? To help you ensure that pipetting technique is not compromising your results, ARTEL offers training & certification seminars on-site at your facility. For information, call 888-406-3463.

Extreme Pipetting Expedition
What the Expedition means to your laboratory
The results of these missions will help laboratories account for and/or eliminate these major sources of potential error. The conditions we encounter in these extreme environments, though severe in some cases, effectively illustrate the changes that can be anticipated in the performance of your pipettes. For a more detailed discussion of Expedition data and its relevance to your everyday liquid handling processes, click here.

To discuss your own laboratory environment with our scientists, or for more information on the Expedition, visit ARTEL in booth #901 at CLMA or visit the Expedition web site.

National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week
April 20-26, 2008
The Extreme Pipetting Expedition is a year-long, scientific study that examines the effect of various environmental factors on delivered volumes from pipettes. Our Expedition Team is traveling to selected sites in North America that are characterized by particular environmental factors (see Mission links below). The quest of the next mission is to study the effect of humidity on pipette performance.
