Keeping Plasma Safe
Haematologic Technologies Inc. Implements Artel's Liquid Handling Quality Assurance Systems to Ensure Consistent Results
Today, companies like Vermont-based Haematologic Technologies, Inc. (HTI) are making high-quality plasma proteins and reagents readily available to the medical and scientific communities. Given the vital role plasma proteins are increasingly playing in medical and scientific research, suppliers like HTI have developed stringent quality assurance guidelines designed to surpass their customers' own QA audit requirements.
Given the critical role of pipettes in handling micro volumes, HTI focuses heavily on quality control for its liquid handling instrumentation.

Pipette Calibration has Come a Long Way... And so has Accreditation
Revisited: Patria Rivas Clinical Lab in the Dominican Republic
In our last issue, the article about Patria Rivas Clinical Lab's efforts to become the first accredited lab in the Dominican Republic generated a lot of interest.
Founded in 1966 as a one-room facility, the laboratory installed new equipment and broadened its scope of services in 1991. As the first and still the only accredited laboratory offering DNA paternity testing in the Caribbean, Patria Rivas' story has become a laboratory legend throughout the region.

Do Plate Readers Agree? Understanding Performance Differences Between Different Plate Reader Makes and Models

Microplate readers are used in numerous laboratory applications to measure results of chemical assays in microplates. Readers may be used to collect one or several types of measurements including absorbance or optical density. However, like any type of laboratory equipment, not all plate readers are created equal. Each plate reader lends different amounts of uncertainty to measurements collected and, therefore, uncertainty in the overall results of the assays conducted.

You Want to Know: How Frequently Should You Calibrate Your Pipettes?
One of our most popular issues of the Artel Lab Report helps you determine calibration frequency.
Pipettes are subject to silent and random failures and have a higher rate of failure than most other laboratory instruments. Understanding this, it is important to establish an appropriate calibration frequency that achieves sufficiently high pipette reliability. Learn how you can minimize the chances that laboratory results will be compromised, and how you can ensure traceability, accountability and confidence in your test results.
