Artel Supply Chain Training Enhances Productivity and Innovation

The Association for Operations Management (APICS) Honors Artel as Company of the Year

Westbrook, ME (June 6, 2011) — Artel, the worldwide leader in liquid handling quality assurance, was recently recognized for its outstanding support and educational participation in APICS, The Association for Operations Management. This recognition was awarded by the association’s Down East Chapter that serves membership in the State of Maine.

APICS Logo“Artel values APICS’ efforts to improve supply chain practices and management and we are honored by this recognition,” said Kirby Pilcher, President and Co-Founder of Artel. “In keeping with the high standards we promote, it is important for us to participate in professional development programs to enhance our production capabilities. We also offer to our laboratory clientele a series of training services that are based on increasing quality through teaching best practices in liquid handling technique. We believe in the great work the APICS does and we look forward to an ongoing and fruitful relationship with its members.”

Many of Artel’s supply chain staffers are regular participants in the APICS supply chain management certification programs. The Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) certification program is a four module independent-study program where supply chain professionals learn the higher-level management and logistical skills necessary for an effective and efficient supply chain. The Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) certification program consists of five 10-week modules and teaches best practices in supply chain productivity.

“As Artel continues to grow, it is essential to continue raising the bar for our supply chain practices and operations management to drive efficiencies, and to create a more productive relationship with suppliers,” said Jack Wood, Artel’s Supply Chain Manager and a graduate of the APICS CSCP program. “By going through the APICS training programs we have been able to greatly improve our production and inventory planning. Receiving this recognition alongside companies that are 10 times our size shows how dedicated Artel is to providing excellent service and building strong relationships with our suppliers.”

Artel is well-known for manufacturing the most accurate, precise and easy-to-use systems for ensuring data integrity in any laboratory process requiring liquid volume measurement. Having an efficient and effective supply chain is crucial to the company’s reputation as a leader in quality assurance solutions.

Artel’s systems are based on proprietary ratiometric photometry and test for accuracy and precision by measuring light absorption by two specially formulated dyes to verify delivered volumes. The Artel MVS® Multichannel Validation System is used to simultaneously assess accuracy and precision of each tip of an automated liquid handler at volumes as low as 10nL. The Artel PCS® Pipette Calibration System is used to automatically measure and document the accuracy and precision of volumes dispensed from handheld pipettes.
